Acrylic/Oil Paintings and Pricing.

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN OIL and ACRYLIC :

The binder of oil paints is linseed oil (or another drying oil), whereas acrylic paint has water as the vehicle for the thinning the acrylic polymer, which serves as the binder. Thus, oil paint is said to be “OIL-based”, whereas ACRYLIC paint is “water-based”. However, when completely dry, both mediums have similar properties, which are durable and long lasting and maintain their brilliance.

Adaptability aside, one of the major benefits of using acrylics is that they generally do not have a strong chemical smell. They usually are suitable to those who use the products often or who might be sensitive to fragrances. Additionally, most dry true, meaning that they don’t lighten much as they solidify, giving an artist a better idea of what his finished design will look like. These products also tend to resist water well after application and drying, even though they can be diluted while work with it. Yellowing and cracking is minimal over time, and colours maintain their brilliance.

I personally prefer acrylic paint over oil paint mainly because of the odour oil paint emits and the very slow drying time.
